Taj Mahal, Agra

Taj Mahal is located on the bank of the river Yamuna. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built this monument to memorialize his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was constructed in the 17th century with white marble.

In Persian, the Taj Mahal stands for the Crown of Palaces and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction started in 1631, was completed in 1648, and took 17 years.

Visitings Hours: opens 30 Mins before Sunrise and closes 30 Mins after Sunset, closed on Friday

Red Fort, Delhi

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan constructed this monument with red sandstones in the year 1639 when he shifted from Agra to Delhi. Emporers of the Mughal Dynasty used this as the main residence. This place was a ritual and political center of the Mughal state. Every year on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India unfurls the National Flag.

In 2007, it became one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. When visiting Red Fort don’t miss the one-hour lights and sounds show which takes place inside the fort. The show tells about the history of the fort in English and Hindi language.

India Gate, New Delhi

The India War Memorial is also known as India Gate, located alongside the Rajpath. It was constructed in memories of the 84,000 British India Army Soldiers who died in the First World War and The Third Anglo-Afghan War between 1914 and 1921.

Qutub Minar, Delhi

Qutub Minar is a Minaret and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the second-tallest monument in Delhi. After defeating the last Hindu Rule of Delhi, Qutb Ud-Din-Aibak the founder of the Delhi Sultanate started the construction in 1192. He constructed the basement and his son-in-law Illtutmish took over and constructed three stories. Firoz Shah Tuglak built the fourth and fifth stories.

Visiting Hours: Except Sundays, it is remained open all days from 10 AM to 5 PM

It is also known as Amer Fort located on a hill. It was initially built by Raja Man Singh in the year 1592 and later made by Sawai Jai Singh. The fort is very big you need at least 2-3 hours to explore it. You can enjoy the elephant ride up the stairs to Amber Fort. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site as “Hill Forts of Rajasthan.”

In the year 1799 Maharaj Sawai Pratap Singh built Hawal Mahal. It got the name Hawal Mahal because of its unique structure. The small windows are constructed like a mesh so that the cool wind can enter the palace and keep the palace cool during the summer months. The main reason to construct this palace was that the women can see the festivities on the streets.

It has 953 tiny windows, which is also known as “Jharokhas.” it is constructed with red and pink sandstone in a pyramidal shape that looks like a crown.

Agra Fort, Agra

Agra Fort or The Red Fort of Agra was built of red sandstone in the year 1573 by Emperor Akbar. It is located on the bank of the river Yamuna. Until 1638, it was the residence of the Mughals. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Some part of the fort is used by the Indian Army. Within the Agra Fort, there is Diwan-i Khas, Jahangiri Mahal, Pearl Mosque, Diwan-i Aam, and Moti Masjid.

Bala Quila Fort, Alwar

It is also called Alwar Fort, situated above the town Alwar in the Aravalli Ranges. It was built by Hasan Khan Mewati in the 15th Century under the rulers of the Yadavas, The Marathas, and the Kachwaha Rajputs. The fort has six gates Andheri Gate, Laxman Pol, Jai Pol, Krishen Pol, Suraj Pol, and Chand Pol.

Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer

It is settled on the golden sands of the Thar Desert. The fort is like a mini town with shops, temples, houses, and restaurants. It was built in the year 1156 and got its name from the ruler Rao Jaisal, he was the former Bhati Rajput. The fort was categorized under “the Hill Forts of India” by the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort is at the height of 250 ft and bounded by 30 ft tall walls.

It was originally named ‘Trikut Garh’ because it was a triangular shape, and it was built on the Trikuta Hills.

Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar

It is a historical garden located near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The bagh is honored in the memory of the innocent people who were by the British when they were celebrating the Baisakhi festival on 13th April 1919. Towards the end of the park, there is a wall there are still 36 bullet marks that were fired on the people. Second, there is a well where people jumped to save themselves from the firing.

Qila Mubarak, Bhatinda

It is a monument located in Bhatinda, Punjab. It is traced that it was built between 90 and 110 AD era, and it is believed that it is the oldest fort in India.

Since it is located on the northwest side of India, it was also known as Tabar-e-Hind or the gateway to India. Delhi Sultanates’ first lady ruler Razia Sultana was defeated and was kept imprisoned in this Qila.

Stok Palace, Leh Ladakh

It was set up by King Tsepal Namgyal in 1820. In 1980 this place was opened to the public by the Dalai Lama. As of today, this palace has been converted into Stok Palace Museum, a heritage hotel and houses, and a temple.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

This fort was built in the year 1459 by Rao Jodha in Jodhpur. It is one of the largest forts in the country. It is situated at the height of 410 feet on the hill. Furthermore, it has seven gates they are called Bhairon Gate, Loha Gate, Victory Gate, Dedh Kamagra Gate, Fateh Gate, Marti Gate, and Gopal Gate. The fort has luxurious palaces Phool Mahal (Rose Palace) and Sheesh Mahal (Glass Palace).
