Kallanai Dam

The ancient dam was built initially by the Chola dynasty in 100 AD – 150 AD across the flowing river Kaveri. During the 19th century in 1804, the Britishers re-modeled the dam. It is located in Thanjavur District, 15kms away from Tiruchirapalli. This dam is also known as the “Grand Anicut.”

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam

This dam is located between the borders of Nalgonda district in Telangana and Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh. It was constructed between 1955 and 1967. It is considered to be one of the largest dams in Asia. The dam has 26 flood gates which are 45 feet tall and 42 feet wide 0.99 miles long and 490 feet tall from its deepest foundation. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana both operated this dam jointly.

Srisailam Dam

It is the second-largest capacity working hydroelectric station in India. The dam is constructed near Srisailam temple across the Krishna River in Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh, and Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. It is 300 m above sea level, 145 m maximum height, 512 m long and has 12 radial crest gates.

Mettur Dam

In India, it is one of the largest dams and is located across the river Cauvery. It was built in the year 1934 and took 9 years to complete. The height and width of the dam are 214 and 171 feet. It is located in Salem district, Tamil Nadu.

Bhavanisagar Dam

The dam is located in Erode district, Tamil Nadu on the river Bhavani River, and it is also called Lower Bhavani Dam. It is the second-largest dam in Tamil Nadu. It was constructed between 1948 and 1955. The dam is 40 m high and 8 km long. There is a park in front of the dam and a closed channel where you can do boating.

Amaravathi Dam

It is located inside Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary Tirupur district, Tamil Nadu. The dam is constructed on the river Amravathi. It was built in 1957 surrounded by Palani Hills and Annamalai Hills. You can also visit Amravathi Sagar Crocodile Farm near the dam, it is the biggest crocodile nursery in India.

Malampuzha Dam

It is located in Palakkad, Kerala, and is the largest dam in Kerala. Its construction was started in the year 1949 and completed in the year 1955. There is a park below the dam where children can enjoy. The dam is surrounded by the big Rocky Mountains. In front of the dam over the garden a ropeway goes. You must take a ride there. The boating facility is there you can take a pedal boat for seeing the nearby places.

Idukki Dam

It is a double curvature arch dam constructed between two granite hills Kuravan and Kurathi across the Periyar River in Idukki district, Kerala. In Asia, it is one of the highest arch dams. It is the first curvature dam in India and the second in the world. The height of the dam is 168.91 m.

Banasura Sagar Dam

In India, it is the largest earth dam and in Asia, it is the second-largest dam. It is situated near Kalpett district. You can enjoy yourself there by horse riding, boating, and trekking. Trekking in Banasura hill peak is a very challenging task.

Supa Dam

This dam is built on the river Kali in Karnataka. It is the highest dam and second-largest dam in Karnataka. The construction was started in 1974 and was completed in 1987. It is a picnic spot where you can enjoy boating and scooting water activities.

Tungabhadra Dam

This dam is constructed on the river Tungabhadra in Karnataka. The construction was completed in 1953. The height of the dam is 49.5 meters and it has 33 crest gates. At night the dam is decorated with rainbow color lights.

Krishna Raja Sagara Dam

It is also known as KRS. It was constructed by Mysore Maharaj Krishna Raja Wadiya IV. Attached to the dam there is an ornamental garden, Brindavan gardens. The construction began in 1911 and was completed in 1931.

Linganamakki Dam

It was constructed in 1964 across the Sharavathi River near world-famous Jog Falls. The length of the dam is 24 km located in the Sagara taluk, Karnataka. The height of the dam is 1819 feet above sea level.

Krishnagiri Dam

The dam is located in the Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu. The dam is constructed between 1955 and 1957. Besides the dam, there is a park where children can play, and you can enjoy seeing beautiful flowers.
